Ski for Heart is a magical weekend in the Rockies for anyone with a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to support life-saving research. There's no mental or physical prep needed, it’s all about unwinding and unplugging with family and friends. And by raising $500 or more for Ski for Heart, you’ll enjoy fantastic reduced rates, starting at $159, (up to 60% off!) at the legendary Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in the world!

We’re so excited to announce that our Honourary Chair this year is Brian Keating, Calgary’s favourite adventurer, naturalist and speaker he’s been called Canada’s own Indiana Jones! And David Gray (CBC Radio One) and Darrel Janz (CTV), our fabulous emcee duo, are back again. We’ll have more information about our special guests soon!

All About Ski For Heart

All Ski for Heart participants raise a minimum of $500; many set their goals much higher. This year we hope to raise $130,000: that’s enough to provide funding for two New Investigator awards, or to launch a public awareness campaign about the FAST signs of stroke! Before the celebration weekend

When you register for Ski for Heart, you’ll start by creating a personal online fundraising page. Reach out to your friends, family and colleagues to raise funds before the celebration weekend on February 7 & 8, 2020. If you need help, please get in touch!

Each participant must raise a minimum of $500 to be eligible for a special room rate* at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Click here for fundraising tips and much more that will help you to reach your goal!

A Heart & Stroke representative will be in touch to assist you in booking your room at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. A variety of room sizes are available to accommodate your group.

*Room rates start at $159 not including service fees or applicable taxes. Last time we checked the regular price was $339!

The celebration weekend

On February 7 & 8, 2020, all Ski for Heart participants meet at the fabulous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise to celebrate our fundraising success, and enjoy all the great outdoor activities in Alberta’s winter wonderland! Join us for our scheduled events, and check out all the Fairmont has to offer to make your weekend even more memorable.

On Saturday, February 8, we’re hosting a number of great adventures, suitable for all ages and abilities, to challenge your heart health. Let us know your choice(s) of the following adventures when you check in on Friday, February 7 discounts for rentals and lift tickets may be available!

Cross-country skiers unite! Start with hot chocolate before skiing around on the lake
Walking on snow! Set off on an outstanding guided snowshoe journey
Downhill departure! Head out for a day of downhill skiing or snowboarding at the pristine Lake Louise Ski Resort. Pick up your discounted lift tickets at the event check-in on Friday.

No equipment? No problem. You can bring your own or rent at Chateau Ski & Snow

Weekend Schedule

Friday February 7

4:00 PM Event check-in opens If you are planning to downhill on Saturday or Sunday, ask us about discounted lift tickets.

7:00 - 8:00 PM Meet & Greet Reception with Heart & Stroke Ski for Heart team, researchers, board members and our special guests. Cash bar only.

9:00 PM Event Check-In closes; don’t worry, you can always catch us in the morning.

Saturday February 8

8:00 AM Downhill departure! Board the FREE shuttle from the Chateau to the Lake Louise Ski Resort for a day of world-class skiing or snowboarding on over 4,200 skiable acres.

10:00 AM Join us as at the Boat House where coffee and hot chocolate will be served, and get set to cross-country ski or snowshoe.

10:15 AM Walking on snow! Get your heart pumping on a 2-hour, 5 km. snowshoe adventure led by outdoor enthusiast Alan Keller. Suitable for all ages and abilities.

10:15 AM Cross-country skiers unite! Kick-off on the lake; ski one of the established routes or choose your own path.

1:30 - 3:30 PM Bavarian Curling: Join us on the lake... no lederhosens required.2020 skip to be announced!

3:30 PM Downhill Return: The FREE Shuttle returns from Lake Louise Ski Resort just in time for the Après Ski.

4:00 - 8:00 PM Après Ski: hors d’oeuvres, guest speakers, awards and a cash bar.

Participant Incentives

Early Bird catches the prize: Register by December 20 and be entered into a draw to win: “The Chateau Experience” for two at the Walliser Stube. Fondue and wine? Yes please. Value $190.
New Participants: $250 = $500!: For the first 8 NEW Ski for Heart participants who raise $250, Mawer Investment Management Ltd. will match with another $250 donation.
Special room rates: All registered participants must raise $500 between September and February; this makes you eligible for a special room rate* at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
Raise more/earn more: For every $250 you raise above the $500 minimum required, you’ll earn 20 Fairmont dollars! This is the perfect fundraising incentive! Use them to lower your room rate even further, or treat yourself and your guests to an unforgettable meal or a spa experience at the Chateau.
Star Fundraiser: Raise $1,000 or more and be entered into a draw to win a magical one-night stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in a luxury suite accommodation, including breakfast and self-parking. We cover the one-night stay, you take care of the magic. Value $895.

More moments. More life. That’s why Heart & Stroke leads the fight against heart disease and stroke. Powered by donors and volunteers, we invest in life-saving research, empower and support Canadians to take control of their health, and advocate to governments to invest in programs, public awareness campaigns and healthy public policies to create an environment where healthy choices are the easy choices. Our donors are a part of our mission to promote health, save lives and enhance recovery. Following are some examples of what we’ve been able to accomplish thanks to our generous supporters.

Promoting health:

In the 2018-19 school year, our HeartSmart Kids™; program reached 44,800 students in every province and territory — including more than 14,000 in Indigenous classrooms. The program is developed and distributed free to teachers by Heart & Stroke, and aims to establish healthy habits that can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke for life.
A revised Canada’s Food Guide was developed with significant input from Heart & Stroke. Almost all our recommendations were included, such as a focus on whole real foods and limiting consumption of processed food and sugary drinks.
Research led by Dr. Gavin Oudit at the University of Alberta has identified the cause of 1 in 5 cases of heart failure. Next goal: Therapies to prevent this killer before it takes hold.

Saving lives:

Almost 200,000 people learned how to save a life by viewing our 90-second videos showing how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

New research on a life-saving treatment expanded the time window to 24 hours from 12 when it can be effective for some strokes increasing access for people in rural and remote areas.

Thousands of healthcare providers across Canada received trainingon the Canadian Stroke Best Practices Recommendations, keeping them current with the latest evidence on effective stroke care.

Enhancing recovery:

More than 120 people with lived experience of heart conditions, stroke or related dementia are serving alongside medical and research experts on key Heart & Stroke advisory groups. They ensure that the impact of these diseases on ordinary lives is considered in everything we do.

More than 4 million people turned to Heart & Stroke health information resources to learn about preventing, self-managing and living with heart conditions, stroke and related dementia.

Research by Dr. Christiane Hoppmann is revealing the role of spouses in helping stroke survivors make healthy changes.
