The ride itself typically takes 15-20 minutes. You should arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled ride time to hand in donations, have a team photo taken and enjoy the fun warm-up games. Some teams plan post-event activities—hopefully yours is one of them!
The Big Bike is partially about increasing your heart rate and physical activity, but it is also a team-building exercise! The bike is pedal-powered, but when you and your teammates pedal together, it is not overly strenuous. You can make it a workout for yourself, or work together with your teammates to keep the bike moving. Please be aware that you do need to be at least 14 and able to climb onto the bike unaided.
No way! The Big Bike rides in rain, wind, and even snow! But if there’s lightning or other dangerous weather, the event can be rescheduled or cancelled. In the unlikely event that this happens to your Big Bike event, your Heart & Stroke representative will liaise directly with your team’s captain.
As you pedal through streets, you’ll get lots of attention. What better way to showcase your company/organization than to display your team name at the front of the Big Bike? That way, your community will see that you’re pedaling for Heart & Stroke to help fund life-saving research.
If your team raises $5,000 or more, you will all receive a Big Bike Medal on event day
2018 will be mark our 25th awesome year! The Big Bike now raises more than $8 million each year to help fund critical research.
Anyone aged 14 years or older! Individuals aged 14-17 years can ride as long as a parent or legal guardian has provided signed permission on the waiver form.Download the waiver and either send it to your Big Bike Captain or bring it along on your event day.
Unfortunately, for safety reasons, we cannot allow anyone under the age of 14 to participate in the Big Bike.
But bring your kid(s) to cheer you on! And they can help you fundraise too. It’s great to get the family involved.
It’s easy, just follow these easy steps:
As long as your team is registered online, it’s quick and easy to register:
If you can’t find your captain or team name, it’s possible that your team isn’t registered yet. Please ask the captain to register the team online. Alternatively, you can contact us and we’ll help you out.
Ideally, the bike should be full, so that’s 29 riders. The Big Bike is ‘pedal powered’ and therefore requires at least 14 people to get the Big Bike rolling. Please contact your local area office for more details.
You certainly can! Please speak to your local Heart & Stroke representative or contact us to find out how.
In 2015, we implemented a new fundraising platform, which enhanced your website experience and made it easier to register, fundraise and track your progress, so you can use your username and password from 2015, 2016, or 2017.
Click on the “forget password” link which will prompt you to enter a username and email address. If you don’t know your username, you can click on the “forgot username” name which will require you to type in your email address. If the system does not recognize your email address, then you will need to register as a new user.
Yes, if you participated in Big Bike in between 2015-2017, any contacts you uploaded to your Participant Centre, as well as your donor list will already be there. You can still import any additional contacts and use the updated mail templates to start fundraising.
If you are considered a new user, once you register online, there are options within your Participant Centre to import your address book and contacts to your new headquarters page. You’ll also have access to email templates to use to reach your network. If your past donors are not displaying in your Participant Centre, please contact your local Big Bike Coordinator and they will be able to send you an electronic version of your donor list.
Your generous donation will fund critical research. This research that is desperately needed to save lives and develop treatments that brings hope to heart disease and stroke survivors and their families. See what your gift can do.
It’s easy to find who you’re looking for!
Yes! If you donate online, your tax receipt is automatically emailed to the email address you provide at the time of donation. If you donate $15 or more offline (through cash or cheque), we’ll mail you your tax receipt.
If your offline donation is less than $15 and you would like a tax receipt, please ask the person you’re supporting to check the ‘tax receipt’ box on the offline donation form to ensure you receive a mailed receipt.
Did you donate online?
If your donation was made online, you should automatically receive a tax receipt by email. Sometimes these emails end up in junk mail folders so check your junk mail first. If it’s not there, please email donations@hsf.on.ca so we can get you your tax receipt.
Did you donate by cash or cheque?
If your donation is $15 or more, we’ll automatically mail you your tax receipt. If it’s under $15, you will not receive a tax receipt unless you explicitly request one. If you need a tax receipt for donations of under $15, please ask the person you are sponsoring to check the ‘tax receipt’ box on the offline donation form.
For all other tax receipt inquiries, please contact us.
No worries! That happens from time to time. Please email donations@hsf.on.ca and we’ll get it corrected for you right away.
