For more than 60 years, Heart & Stroke has been dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Our work has saved thousands of lives and improved the lives of millions of others.
Heart & Stroke is a leading funder of life-saving research, which has led to breakthroughs such as heart transplant surgery and a revolutionary stroke treatment that cuts the death rate by 50%.
In 1999, Dr. Michael Sole, with a joint donation of $13 million dollars from the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario (HSFO) and the family of Richard Lewar broadened the Centre for Cardiovascular Research by creating The Heart and Stroke Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence for cardiovascular research at the University of Toronto (the Centre).
The purpose of the Centre is to bring the best of cardiovascular sciences at the University of Toronto together, including basic sciences, clinical investigations and community health.
