Welcome to my Heart & Stroke Canvass page!
I have been canvassing every February for 24 years, starting in 1996 when my mother passed at age 51. I have met neighbors, including one who had just attended her father’s funeral (heart attack) the day before, another whose brother had a severe stroke in his 50s and another who is one of the researchers whose work is funded by Heart and Stroke. Such a gift to be able to contribute in this small way.
Cardiovascular (CV) health is key to longevity and enjoyable quality of life, even when other trauma and diseases are present or even prevalent. Personal losses to CVD and those of people I know have been devastating. These have included people of all genders taken much too early, and others who live with impaired health and disability.
This year’s campaign carries a powerful message: When it comes to women’s heart and brain health, it’s #TimeToSeeRed:
- Heart disease and stroke are the #1 cause of premature death for women in Canada
- Heart attack symptoms go unrecognized in 53% of women
- 2/3 of heart disease and stroke clinical research focuses on men
The numbers say it all. Women are under-researched, under-diagnosed, under-treated, and over-dying. It’s time to close the research gap and stop women dying unnecessarily. It’s #TimeToSeeRed.
By making a donation, you’ll become part of the push for change – shining a spotlight on the inequities and fueling the scientific discovery and collaborations needed to save lives.
Funding for research is needed for this crucial cause. Please donate to save lives and give the women we love #MoreMoments.
