Thanks for taking a look at my page. I'd like to tell you why I have decided to fundraise and what your donation does.
On behalf of the Heart & Stroke Foundation, I'm canvassing and connecting with friends and family to deliver life-saving information and raise funds for vital research.
In 2004, sixteen years ago this month and just a few days after White Juan, I suffered an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (known as a 'Triple A'). This is an extremely serious and dangerous cardiovascular event. Because of Nancy's quick thinking and the immediate help of friends and neighbours, I was delivered into the care of an exceptionally talented medical team at the Infirmary in Halifax. I was unconscious or semi-conscious in the intensive care unit for ten days ... after doctors had replaced my damaged aorta. The fact that I am alive today is testament to the extraordinary skills and dedication of the entire medical team that looked after me. But it's much more than that. The artificial aorta itself and the procedures to implant it, as well as the tools and expertise to diagnose the problem are the direct result of long and intensive medical research.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation conducts yearly fundraising campaigns to generate financial support for this kind of research, as well as other efforts to inform the public of good cardiac health and the early signs of heart disease and stroke. Recent research developments have spectacular implications for the treatment of stroke victims. Understanding the earliest signs of a stroke event and getting the patient to the hospital is essential to successful recovery.
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian men and women. I want to help change this. That’s why I’m fundraising to create more survivors.
All of the money I raise will go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, where they’ll use it to develop life-saving treatments that bring hope to heart disease and stroke patients. In the last year alone, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has helped create 165,000 survivors of heart disease and stroke.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation today.
It's only with your help that we can continue to fund this vital research, and return more survivors home to their loved ones.
Thank you so much for your support.
