Welcome to Gerald Fitzgerald and Rebecca Miller's Heart & Stroke Canvass page!
Our experience with H&S has been personal, like it has been for so many in our community. In April of 2017 our son Jason suffered a heart attack and died, then in August of 2019 our Son in Law, Barry, father of my co-canvasser Becky, experienced a major stroke and due to the excellent response and care of family, physicians, nursing staff, and ER personnel his recovery is exceeding normal expectations for this event. As a young boy my mother suffered a stroke.
Every year, Heart & Stroke canvassers across Canada raise funds for life-saving heart and stroke research.
This year’s campaign carries a powerful message: When it comes to women’s heart and brain health, it’s #TimeToSeeRed:
- Heart disease and stroke are the #1 cause of premature death for women in Canada
- Heart attack symptoms go unrecognized in 53% of women
- 2/3 of heart disease and stroke clinical research focuses on men
The numbers say it all. Women are under-researched, under-diagnosed, under-treated, and over-dying. It’s time to close the research gap and stop women dying unnecessarily. It’s #TimeToSeeRed.
By making a donation, you’ll become part of the push for change – shining a spotlight on the inequities and fueling the scientific discovery and collaborations needed to save lives.
Funding for research is needed for this crucial cause. Please donate to save lives and give the women we love #MoreMoments.
