Dear Friends and Family,
This year is different! I will be riding an individual ride on a day in June to replace the usual ride on the DVP in Toronto. I plan to ride at least 50K -- and I plan to choose a day that is sunny and warm, in contrast to other years!
Why am I still fundraising for the Heart and Stroke this year? One, because I do this annual event to honour my stepfather, John, who died of heart disease at 54. And also because these are especially stressful times for people living with or at risk for heart conditions and stroke. Alarmingly, COVID-19 has aggravated their risk of death and disability. In fact, emerging data shows that people with heart conditions are four times more likely to die from the virus than patients with no underlying conditions, and people with previous strokes are three times more likely to die underscoring the urgency of the work we are doing together to raise critical funds in support of those most vulnerable.
Your donation will push forward life-saving research and fund incredible breakthroughs to create more survivors of heart disease and stroke. It was always apparent that family history played a role in our risk factors for heart disease and stroke. But despite significant advances, we only know 20-30% of the genes involved. With the right funding, doctors predict they could unlock the genetic puzzle behind cardiovascular disease within as little as 5 years.
Please help me with my fundraising goal and make a donation today.
