Everyday is a gift. A gift made possible by ongoing research funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our family knows this first hand.
Our son Lucas was born with multiple congenital heart defects. They included transposition of the great arteries, atrial septal defect, arterial stenosis, and Double Inlet Left Ventricle. In simple terms, his heart was really messed up and he is known as a 'Single Ventricle' cardiac kid. Although his heart cannot be 'fixed,' through a series of 3 open heart surgeries performed at Sick Kids Hospital, his heart was redesigned to be able to still pump blood without having a right ventricle. While his first 5 years of life were very fragile and scary, Lucas is now an energetic 18 year old. Amazing, right?! He is our miracle kid!
Our Mom and Grandma, Sandra Roth, is also a heart hero. Diagnosed with congestive heart failure, she received her pacemaker a few years ago. This has enabled her to continue to live her busy life with her grandchildren, family and friends.
We are forever grateful to the Heart and Stroke Foundation for their dedication to research on congenitial heart defects and heart disease. Their work makes a difference in the lives of so many!
We are excited to be taking part in this fundraising initiative for the second year. Thank you for considering giving to enable Heart and Stroke to help more people like Lucas and Grandma.
