I can't believe its been 4 years since my dad passed away. I have grown so much in these past years. I have become stronger, independent and really come to appreciate every single minute of my life. Further, I cannot express how fortunate I am for my family , friends, and colleagues who were there in every step of my journey.
My dad was 54 years old when he passed away. He ran, biked, and played tennis with me every weekend in the summer. My competitive spirit is an accurate reflection of who my Dad was. One Friday evening he experienced a heart attack and died on the spot. My family was not ready. We learned that his major blood vessels were 97% blocked with plague. I always wondered how someone who can be so active, experience a heart attack.
This goes to show that heart disease can hit at any age. Sometimes you can't judge a person's health by how they act. This is why I have become a strong supporter of yearly physical check-ups.
Raising money for Heart & Stroke goes to the research and advancements that will hopefully save the people we love, such as my Dad, from being taken away too soon. I can really attest that this money goes to good use as I had the opportunity to work on a post-stroke robot sponsored by Heart & Stroke for my own university thesis, an experience that I now have profound appreciation for, not just as the student but as the daughter who has been personally affected, trying to bring change for others. Further, I have joined the Heart & Stroke Young Leader's Committee to have a bigger opportunity to give back.
With the help of friends and family, we have been able to raise over $13,000 under my Dad's name. Please help me reach my fundraising goal and make a donation today. Any amount helps.
