One of my (too many) hobbies is bicycle touring, which is basically riding a bike for a long time. My friend Kelsey invited me to sign up for the Heart & Stroke foundation's Ride for Heart! Which takes place every year in June and involves a 50km bike ride down the Don Valley Highway. The idea of riding on wide roads away from cars for a good cause really piqued my interest, so I signed up.
Then Covid-19 happened.
One of the few ways I've been able to keep sanity is by cycling. I bike on lonely roads and trails away from people to clear my head and feel the wind on my face. That said, the Ride for Heart has recently announced it's shifting to a virtual event. Where participants can track their own ride and post it on social but they will not be hosting a closed circuit. So I made my own!
My goal is to raise $100 for this foundation.
Here's the plan: I'm going to try to recreate the race distance without using main roads, keeping my distance from joggers and other cyclists and still having a blast.
