It was May 25th of 2005.
We came home from my brother’s birthday celebration. I said good night to my parents, and went to my room and of course got onto my personal computer, I was 23.
Around 2:00am, my mom came into my room to inform me that my father is not feeling well. He could barely talk and he had no feeling in his right side- he was having a stroke at 55 years of age!
The next few days we spent at the hospital, going through many tests and appointments, it was exhausting for everyone, it was the worst week of my life. My father was a "machine" before this all happened. There was nothing he did not know or could not do. Stroke took half of that away. Even fifteen years after his stroke, my father is still weak in his right side, he never regained all of his strengths and ability, and because of the extent of the nerve damage, was never able to go back to work. When you see him at first, you would never think that he had a stroke – he hides it well- but after a while, his superhero facade disappears and the little tiny hand gestures, leg movements start to show.
My family and I have been a big supporter of Heart and Stroke Foundation for 15 years now, both financially and with clothing and small household appliance drives. This year due to COVID19, Team CIBC is taking part in a first-even Manulife Heart & Stroke Virtual Ride for Heart, and I am asking you to please be kind and make a small donation on my page. Thank you.
