Here I am pictured with my dad and nieces as I am about to embark on my first-ever bike trip to the Magdalene Islands. My dad loved to bike the trails on PEI with my mom, and shortly after I moved home in fall of 2016, we had talked about biking the Confederation Trail across PEI together. Unfortunately, my dad passed away that winter from a sudden cardiac arrest, and ultimately, undiagnosed heart disease.
I am participating in the Manulife Heart & Stroke Virtual Ride for Heart this year in his memory, and I am going to do that trip we talked about doing together. Tip-to-tip, the Confederation Trail is 273 km of biking. I will be completing my trip during the last week of June/1st week of July, over 4 days (which 4 days is weather-dependent!):
Tignish to Richmond (83 km); Richmond to Hunter River (72 km); Hunter River to Morell (64 km); and Morell to Elmira (54 km).
I realize that many of you donated to the cause during Heart Month, which just happened in February, so I understand if this is too early for you to make another donation to Heart & Stroke. However, I would like to let you know that for the month of June, donations are being tripled by Manulife. This means even a $10 donation results in $30 to Heart & Stroke!
If you are unable to donate, you could help me out by sharing my social media posts with your friends, or forwarding along an email to others who might share a connection to the cause.
You can also support by joining me for part of my ride! Please consider joining me on part of my journey... If you are interested, you can sign up here (further details at link): https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805094eafa628a4f49-rebeccas
*Note: You can do a short segment of the trip with me, you don't have to commit to one of these longer rides!
Finally, if you feel yourself in a position to donate, I would greatly appreciate your support...
All the best,
