Four years ago at the age of 29 I had my first open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve, due to my congenital heart disease. It was a long and hard rehabilitation and recovery, but I am so excited to say that I am back to being physically active, and find that since my surgery my endurance has really improved. Heart & Stroke has been a major source of knowledge and community for me and for so many others living with heart disease, stroke and vascular cognitive impairment in Canada.
People living with these conditions are at an increased risk of becoming very ill and dying if they contract COVID-19, and emerging data confirms the virus can damage an otherwise healthy heart and impact the brain. Funding for research is more critical than ever, as is keeping people with lived experience connected to each other through support groups. That is why I am participating in the first-ever Manulife Heart & Stroke Virtual Ride for Heart by doing a virtual run.
Your donation will help fund life-saving research breakthroughs and provide a community for people with lived experience.
Help me fund these important activities and meet my fundraising goal.
