Hello, My name is Saj and I am a stroke survivor, I will be riding an exercise bike for an hour for this year’s Virtual Ride.
I had my Stroke in 2012 due to a carotid artery dissection which left my left side paralyzed. In 2016 ride for heart had their first 5km walk which I was able to participate in because I was not able to ride a bike, that year I had noticed someone on a recumbent trike and inquired about where they got it and decided that one year I will complete the 25km which I did in 2019.
I did the 5km walk in 2017 and 2018 with family and friends which was an enjoyable social gathering. Everyone had a good time. We created a lot of memories as we stopped to take pictures with the city skyline which was my favorite part.I love the energy of the event. It was the existing research that saved my life, I want the research to continue to save more lives.
Did you know that every five minutes, someone in this country dies from heart disease, stroke and vascular cognitive impairment? And that people with these conditions are at higher risk for complications, and death, if they contract COVID-19?
Not only is the virus much deadlier for people with chronic conditions, COVID-19 can also damage previously healthy hearts and have serious effects on the brain.
Your donation can help save lives.
That’s why I’m fundraising for the 2021 virtual Manulife Heart & Stroke Ride for Heart on June 6, 2021, by getting active and sharing my heart-shaped route in support of critical heart disease and stroke research.
You can make a difference, too. Your help is needed more than ever to help beat these diseases.
By donating, you’re funding the next big breakthrough, fueling the scientific discovery and collaborations needed to save lives.
Please share your heart and donate to help fund this lifesaving research – together, we’ll beat heart disease and stroke.
